Sara's Fudgey Fudge Cake

Part I: The Cake

 

Cake Ingredients:

q       2 sticks of butter

q       6 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa

q       1 cup water

q       2 cups flour

q       2 cups sugar

q       1/2 cup whole buttermilk

q       1 teaspoon baking soda

q       1/2 teaspoon salt

q       2 eggs

q       1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

 

Cake Directions:

 

1.      Place butter, cocoa and water in saucepan and bring to boil. After it comes to a boil, take it off the heat.

2.      Sift together the flour and sugar.

3.      Combine and add to the flour/sugar mixture the buttermilk, baking soda and salt.

4.      Slightly beat the eggs, and vanilla then add to the cake batter. Beat until smooth -- it is very thin.

5.      Put into 9 x 13 inch greased cake pan. Bake at 350 degrees for approximately 20-25 minutes.

 

Part II: The Frosting

 

Frosting Ingredients:

 

q       1 stick butter

q       4 tablespoons cocoa

q       6 tablespoons buttermilk

q       1-lb box of powered sugar

q       1 teaspoon vanilla

 

Frosting Directions:

 

1.      In saucepan, combine butter, cocoa, buttermilk, sugar and bring to boil.

2.      Stir until smooth.

3.      Add vanilla.

4.      Frost while cake is still warm.

5.      This makes a lot of frosting, the cake will be covered with a layer of fudge.

6.      Serve with top quality vanilla ice cream.

7.      Optional: add powered espresso to flavor.
